NCPF ANNUAL
The Annual Competition is the main competitive event organised by the Federation and has a long tradition dating back to the early days of the Federation.
The Competition has changed over the years to reflect changes in photography, but its ethos remains essentially the same and many of the Trophies awarded each year reflect the long history of the Federation. For example the oldest, the “Corder Trophy”, dates back a century to 1910 and was donated by the then retiring President Walter S Corder.
The Annual is a free competition aimed at individual camera club members within the Federation (although clubs also pick up awards).
Entry must be made via each club’s Designated Officer and not by individual members themselves, however each individual gets to choose which of their images they wish to enter. Clubs will inform their members of the rules and entry requirements well in advance of the closing date.
There are three Sections:
Alternatively, Beginners may enter up to 2 images in the Beginners Class and 1 image in the Open Class so long as their entry for each Section does not exceed 3.
Further Rules & Regulations will be available to Clubs at the time of entry.
The Annual Competition is held over a weekend in April, and whilst there is no audience for this event it does require a small army of volunteers. The NCPF Competitions Organiser will always welcome with open arms new, as well as regular helpers, and they of course get chance to see the event take place. Anyone interested should email the Competitions Organiser.
The Open Classes are judged by a panel of three experienced Judges, two from outside the Federation and one from our own Judges’ List. The Beginners Classes are judged by an NCPF Judge.
Trophies are awarded in each Section for the best club entries as well as for the best entries by individual members. There are a number of trophies for the best individual entries in various categories such as Portrait, Landscape, Nature and Creative, as well as Highly Commended Certificates. Finally there is a trophy, “The Joan Rooker Centenary Trophy” for the best photograph of the entire competition.
ALLIANCE SELECTION
Once the main competitions have taken place a separate panel of NCPF Listed Judges takes a fresh look at the most successful entries and selects from them the Federation’s entries into the Inter-Federation Competitions organised by the PAGB, known generally as the Alliance Competitions.
SELECTORS CHOICE PORTFOLIO
After the Alliance entry has been chosen a further panel of NCPF Judges look at the remainder and select a portfolio of prints and images designed to reflect the work of individual Federation members.
PORTFOLIOS
After the Competitions have been completed the Portfolio Secretary prepares two separate portfolios that are available on CD for individual clubs to book for their programmes. The first, known as the ‘Awards Portfolio’, comprises the award winning images, including winning club entries, Highly Commended work and any selected for the Alliance Competitions. The second comprises those images chosen to reflect our members work and is known as ‘The Selectors’ Choice Portfolio’.
